Glendale Apple Festival

This year I was in charge of organizing the Apple Festival in my town. I asked at a Town Council meeting what was happening with the Apple Festival this year, and was asked to form a committee and find someone to be the chairperson. I found people to be on my committee, but no one wanted to be in charge… so began my first (and I am sure not the last) time organizing a large town function.

We pulled out the fire truck to hang our banners so that everyone who drove by would know what a great event we had going on! The weather was so beautiful. A perfect fall day with lots of sun and a slight cool breeze.

I was watching a movie with Chris a few weeks ago and saw in one scene some decorations for a fall festival that involved long strings of apples and some straw. It looks SO beautiful, that I decided that would be an awesome way to decorate for the Apple Festival. Chris helped me string all these apples before he left town on business. The kids enjoyed gathering the apples off the ground at our friend Lorna’s house, and we spent the afternoon making these apple strings. I also gathered corn stalks from a friend and put those up.

I love the way it turned out! Next year I hope we can make more and decorate the park and town hall with them (If I can find enough helpers!)

I love fall!!!

My mom brought the kids down to play the children’s games. Marion loved the sawdust treasure find. She kept putting her treasures back to get different ones… Elora and Oliver really liked this one too, but they kept all their prizes 🙂

There was a coloring contest, and Elora really enjoyed coloring her picture. She said it was a princess house because it was all pink and purple. Marion liked sitting my Elora and looking at all the crayon colors.

This is where Oliver spent most of the day. He loves this little bounce house and had a GREAT time running around playing in it.

We didn’t have a lot of vendors this year, but there were a few with really great items to sell. I LOVED the booth from Long Valley Lavender Farm. She had these cute buckets and a lot of great homemade lavender soaps, lotions, lip balm, etc. I got a bar of lavender orange soap and it smells AMAZING!

There is a family we refer to as “The Honey People” because they come down to sell honey every year. This year they had homemade salsa too.

And of course, some local grown Glendale apples!

There was also pumpkins, candy apples, corn, beef jerky, pies, and some fun home decor and baby items. We hope to get more vendors for next year, so if you have a fun idea for items to sell, plan on coming out next year!

Chris and some of the local boys set up a paintball field in our basketball court at the town park. It was SO fun to see people playing paintball all afternoon. Everyone who played had a great time. Hopefully we can set it up at more town events next year!

Elora decided to help run the games. She helped hand out prizes, collect tickets, and got to play with all the kids who came around to the games. I loved watching all the local kids running around the park having fun. It was such a great day.

Oliver liked the beanbag throw. Probably because they let him stand right next to it and then he could win lots of tootsie rolls. I love the expression on his face.

We had big bubbles for the kids to play with, which was so fun. For big kids and little ones too 🙂

We brought out our catapult that Chris made last year for the kids to play with. Oliver really enjoyed this (of course, who doesn’t love catapulting stuff at a castle?) and there was always a line of kids excited to play.

There was also a bow and arrow game that Oliver liked.

Oliver found his two favorite friends, Boede and Warren when we came back for the town dinner that night. They were playing ring around the rosie on the grass. It was so cute. These little boys crack me up when they all get together.

Here is our dutch oven crew. They made some amazing chicken and potatoes for the dinner. We got a pretty good crowd of people that night and had some great entertainment for everyone to enjoy. I love town events in Glendale. I love the dinners, the music, and everyone hanging out at the park together. I wish we did it more often, and that is why I became involved in the Apple Festival this year. And it is why I am sure I will end up involved for years to come.

We ended the night with a raffle. These cute kids helped us with the spinner. I am so grateful to everyone who helped make this event great, and to everyone who came. I hope we can make it even bigger and better next year! And hopefully next year Chris will get to be here to enjoy it too!!!
