We love to go to the Haus des Meeres (Aquarium). It is a great place to spend rainy days, and Vienna has plenty of those! The first stop is always to pet the Koi fish near the entrance. We also really love the deep sea tank with the sea turtle, big fish, and sharks. James is fascinated by the big Japanese Spider Crabs. It is always interesting to see what animal each child decides they really want to go see each time we visit.
Marion got a card from Nana with Easter money! She got 5 Euro and while looking around the gift shop we found a stuffed octopus that was 4.90! Marion insisted on purchasing it right away and then spent the whole trip showing the fish to her new octopus friend. Thanks, Nana!
In addition to the fish, there are really great exhibits with lizards, monkeys, insects, big snakes, and birds. The kids especially love the little monkeys that enjoy roaming free in one of the rooms of the aquarium. The kids can usually get quite close to the cute little guys, which is always very exciting for them.
Oliver loves the sharks best of all, and Elora really enjoys trying to look like the big grumpy fish. The aquarium has great interactive spaces to crawl through, look into, and really keeps the kids engaged in the exhibits.
This is one of our favorite spaces. The kids love to crawl inside the bubble and look around at the fish. This is a great floor that is often overlooked and tends to be less crowded than everywhere else in the aquarium.
The kids love bringing their sketchpads the the aquarium so they can draw their favorite animals.
The aquarium has a really great park next to it that we always enjoy playing at. Since we had plenty of time today, we played at the park and enjoyed some pastries that I had bought on the way. The delicious strawberry and cream pastry was mine that I did not share. I got the kids donuts since they don’t know any better!
