We kept driving by the Dole Pineapple Plantation and I decided that I really wanted to go. The big attraction was the maze, which was the Guinness Book of World Records largest maze in the world a few years back!
They give you a little map when you enter and then you have to find six different stations and stamp your card. Finding the stations usually wasn’t too hard, but sometimes it was hard to get back to the middle of the maze before trying to get to a new station!
Chris trying to figure out where to go next…
James got bored with being carried around a maze and decided to take a little nap. Marion loved the center of the maze because there were pretty flowers planted there. She would get so sad when we would head back into the hedges. Elora and Oliver loved looking for the stations though, so I am glad we went to the maze.
Here we are after finding all six stations!
There were fun places to take pictures. The kids were really excited to pose as pineapples. And Marion is so sweet looking at her happy big brother.
Elora wanted to try out all the different pineapple pictures. We liked this one the best.
We took a little train ride which was a tour around the plantation. We learned interesting facts about pineapples, such as it is not originally from Hawaii. It comes from South America. Also interesting is that the volcanic soil in Hawaii is not very good for growing most crops, but is perfect for pineapple.
James enjoyed the ride! The kids liked seeing all the different plants. We saw banana trees, sugar cane, pineapple plants, and some flower plants like Plumeria. It was a pretty neat little tour. We finished the day by enjoying the Dole Whip soft serve – super expensive, but incredibly tasty. The Plantation was a little expensive because you have to pay for all the attractions separately, but I thought it was a really fun day and worth the price to go since our kids love mazes and trains.
