Bellows Beach and Fresh Catch, Kaneohe

We spent one day with Chris’ parents at Bellows Beach which is on one of the many military bases in Hawaii. The best part were the awesome trees with exposed roots that the kids played on.

The kids loved these trees and pretended it was a house, a fort, a restaurant, a spy lab, and a few other things throughout the day.

Chris and I tried to go boogie boarding, which I haven’t done since I was a kid, and it was an epic fail for me. I could not catch any waves… so Chris took the kids out and helped them catch waves and they had a GREAT time.

Oliver especially loved it, even when he got tossed around in the waves and dunked and tipped over. I figured he would get scared, but this kid loves the ocean.

Elora loved it too, especially since she was wearing her goggles. She loves these goggles and says they make her swim SO much better.

There she goes!

I think Oliver would have stayed out there the whole day if we let him! He was nice enough to give Elora a few turns. She enjoyed it until she got dunked a few times, then she came back to play in the sand and the tree. We saw a couple dead Portuguese Man of Wars too, so that kind of scared Elora away from the water.

Marion loves to go in the “little water” when she can hold onto someone. James wasn’t so sure about the whole thing. Bellows really is a beautiful beach.

James loves playing in the sand and had a great time with his sand toys.

We cleaned everyone off, got dressed, and headed over to a really cool playground that was near the beach. The kids ran around for awhile and went on a whole bunch of slides. Elora even made a new friend that she played with the whole time. She was so excited to have some friends in Hawaii.

We looked up the show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives from the Food Network to see if there were any places in Hawaii, and found this place called Fresh Catch. The guy who owns it actually goes fishing every morning, we got to see his huge coolers out in his truck.

Marion loves Octopuses and their logo is… an Octopus! She was so excited to eat at the Octopus restaurant.

We tried some salmon, some fried ahi, and crab stuffed opi rolls. The crab stuffed opi rolls seriously melted in your mouth and were the best fish I have ever had. Ever. In my whole life. It was amazing.

Oliver heard us ordering fish and chips and thought we said, “Fish chips”. I guess fish chips sounded pretty tasty to the little guy because by the time we got our order he was SO excited to try them (he doesn’t eat fish. Ever.) He ate some fish with loud “MMMMMMMMs” the whole time, so I guess he liked it! Elora LOVES fish and was so excited to eat at a fish restaurant. As you can see, she enjoyed it. We liked it so much we even came back another day. Good find!
