The kids really loved hiking near the river. Especially throwing rocks in the river. I am not sure why that is so fun, but the kids never get sick of it.
The river and fall leaves looked really beautiful in the setting sun. I am so excited that we have had such a warm fall. It has been awesome spending so much time outside this fall.
For some reason Elora is just wearing long underwear. It had been “sports apparel” day for red ribbon week and she wore my Yankees jersey over her long underwear to school. And for some reason she took the jersey off and wore her pretty white long underwear to go hiking in…
The kids had some definite opinions about where they wanted to go exploring. Here they are telling us where to go!
Elora loves plants and she thought these were very pretty. Oliver wanted to chop them down with his knife, but Elora wouldn’t allow it.
Marion discovered some sand that was fun to throw in the river. We couldn’t get her to leave this spot, she just kept throwing and throwing and throwing the sand…
We found this lovely spot by the river to stop and eat dinner. We brought along the camp stove and some grapes, top ramen, and bread for dinner. The kids thought it was the best dinner ever. Especially since we ate outside. And because there was ramen. Why do we ever cook anything more complicated than that?
We gave them big walking sticks to help them keep their balance in the river. Luckily no one fell in, because the water was pretty chilly and it was a long hike back to the car…
Elora enjoyed the water the most. She kept telling us how cold it was, and ventured farther and farther from the shore. She was sad when it was time to get out of the river and get her shoes back on.
Marion mostly stood in the mud and threw more rocks in the water. Excellent fun. We enjoyed our outdoor dinner and hike. The kids are excited to come back and have dinner here by the river another day! We chose to hike back along the road since the sun was going down, which made it a little chilly. Marion is always sad when it is time to leave. She always says, “More hiking! Marion go hiking again!”
