Bean Museum

One of mine and Chris’ favorite places at BYU when we were in school was the Bean Museum. My art class used to come here to draw the animals, and Chris and I came here various times with friends or our nieces Amy and Amanda. While in Provo awhile back I took the kids over to the museum.

The museum provides free “museum guide” papers for kids of different ages. I was surprised at how excited Oliver was to find all the animals on his paper. The first one he wanted to find was the big spider.

Here is the kids while searching for a mountain lion.

Elora loves animals, and she also loves anything that resembles schoolwork (strange, I know) so she was happy to find and check off all the animals on her paper.

There were a lot of fun exhibits for kids to learn about animals habitats, or feel the fur of different animals, or to watch videos about different kinds of animals. They had a great time exploring.

Marion hung out in the baby carrier and just enjoyed having new things to look at.

Elora liked seeing all the new kinds of animals and had LOTS of questions about what everything was called, and where they live, and what they eat, and do they eat people…

This is where they could feel different animal furs or the tusks of elephants. The kids came back to this one over and over again.

Elora LOVED the area with all the bugs, especially the butterflies.

But she told me her favorite part was the BIG SCARY bear. Notice Oliver is pointing to show us how big the bear is. I hope I never meet a bear like that in the forest… This was a fun place to bring the kids, and they have already asked many times to go back again!

Oh, and you can’t mention the Bean Museum, without mentioning its cameo appearance with Hedwig the owl in this video.
