A few months back, we booked tickets for The Marriage of Figaro at the Vienna Opera. (By the way, the performance was much better in the opera we saw than that link)
We splurged and got pricey box seats. The ticketing process was interesting… you select areas you are willing to sit and how much you’re willing to pay and they get the maximum price for every seat. Needless to say, it wasn’t cheap…
But the view of the stage and orchestra was great! No pics of the show since that would be rude.
During the interval, we got some more selfie time. It’s the second opera we’ve been to and so far my favorite. The nice thing is in front of each seat is a translation screen so you can actually understand what’s happening with all the characters coming and going.
More selfies! There’s a balcony at the second level we got some fresh air at, as it was summer time and the Viennese are allergic to the evil spirits that accompany air conditioning. Yes, it was hot. And the box seats are really uncomfortable.
The building is really beautiful. And although there was at least one weirdo in shorts and flip flops, we felt you can never be over dressed for an opera that Mozart performed for the emperor.
After the opera, we went to the nearby Cafe Sacher for water and dessert. The waiter must have seen great gobs of sweat on us, because he uncharacteristically put ice in our waters.
Our dessert tower was the envy of the cafe. Including the peculiar and demanding lady sitting next to us whose interrogation of the waiter we found amusing. It was good, but I’m not a fan of Sacher Torte. Chris likes it though. I did enjoy the kaiserschmarren-like pancakes, plum sauce and cream though.
After our dessert, we walked all the way home, which takes us by the Kunsthistorische Museum. We actually walked to the opera as well. It’s nice living near the center of Vienna!
