Sunday Funday Happy Day

We take public transit to church every Sunday. It takes 30 – 40 minutes depending on whether or not we make our connections. We go to church in the afternoon, so we tend to pack a lunch and leave early so we can have a stress free trip to church.

We always start out on the bus when we catch it – sometimes we just walk to the train station. The buses run less often on Sundays than they do the rest of the week.

After the bus we switch to the strassenbahn (tram). When we are lucky it is not too crowded and we can sit all the way there.

We can take the U-bahn which is underground, but I prefer the strassenbahns because I love the scenery as we travel around the city. This is the parliament building the we pass by very often. I never get tired of looking at it. James loves the fountain in the front and is always excited to see the water coming out of the fountain.

It’s always interesting to try to entertain four kids on the train for the 30-40 minutes it takes to get to church. James didn’t want me to take his picture unless I was in the picture too. His Schnappi fingers photo bombed the picture.

This little guy wore his knight medallion he got at the Ritterfest a couple weeks ago. He loves public transit and is so excited anytime we get to ride a bus or train of any kind. He can also tell you many different routes to get to church, most of which (to his disappointment) we will never take because they would take twice as long as our normal route.

Sometimes Kitty sneaks to church in Marion’s backpack.

Marion loves the old trolley trains. She was very excited to be allowed to push the button that will open the doors when the train stops. I have the feeling when we get back to the states it is going to be very difficult to get these kids into car seats.

I love going out with the family to church in our Sunday best. It is such a wonderful way to start a new week.

This little goober was grumpy all day on the train and didn’t want his picture taken. Except at this brief moment where he let his guard down and was laughing while pretending to give me a lecture in a strange language I didn’t understand.

The trip home from church is very different than the trip to church!

Favorite quotes from today:
Marion: “We learned about peacemakers today. I drew a picture of two t-rex and called it ‘the peace eaters’!”
Marion (when I called her in from the church yard for the beginning of church): “I was just talking to my friend the daddy long legs. I was trying to pick him up on a stick so I could pet him.”
