The main city library is just a couple blocks from our house. The kids have wanted to go for a long time because they love books. Today we finally went to check it out!
We headed up to the kids section and were pleasantly surprised to find several shelves full of English children’s books! The kids wasted no time finding fun books and sitting down to read. There were some cozy places for kids to read and lots of sunlight from the sky lights since the children’s section is on the top floor.
There was also a fun selection of picture books that James liked looking at. We stayed for over an hour enjoying all the new books – we even found a Nate the Great book for Oliver and a new series for Elora.
Library cards are free for kids and you can check out 25 books with one card! We got a card for Elora and took a couple books home for her to read. She has read and re-read multiple times every book we brought with us, so she was SUPER excited.
As we were leaving the library, the alarm went off. I thought it was because Marion was playing near the doors because she frequently sets off alarms at our grocery store by playing too close to the doors. On our way to a nearby park I realized that we had gotten a library card, but never gotten in line to check out the books! I mentioned this to Elora who said, “Oh, is that why the alarm went off?” Oops.
Since the library is open until 7:00pm I figured we could go back and check out the books on our way home, so we headed to the park and Elora sat right down to read her new books instead of play at the park. I eventually convinced her she should go play for a bit and enjoy being outside. I may have only convinced her because she finished one of her books.
On the way home from the park we headed back to the library. Oliver asked all kinds of questions like, “Did we steal the books? Are the police going to arrest us?” After going inside (without any alarms going off), Elora put the book she had finished back on the shelf and while we waited for her, Oliver started playing with a touchscreen that he found. As it turns out, it was a special computer to check out books! We got to check out our books using the special machine and head home with fun new books and no fear of being arrested.
