My friend Stefanie and her kids came to hang out with us and the kids all decided to play hide and seek. It was so fun to see all the kids running around together.
Stefanie’s little girl Sophie brought presents for our kids. They all got magic towels and glow sticks. There was a water tap near our campsite, so everyone headed over to the water tap to get their magic towels wet.
Oliver was SO excited to see that his star shaped towel turned into a full size washcloth and had to run all to way back to camp to show me!
We started a fire so we could cook dinner. All the kids found this a fascinating process. Especially the part with lighter fluid.
James would not stop handing Chris wood. Apparently he thought we needed a really big fire.
Stephanie and baby Stockton enjoyed hanging out in the camp chairs while the kids all ran around.
Elora led all the kids up to this “hide-out”. Stef and I thought that looked a bit scary, so Chris went to check it out and ended up staying with the kids in the hide-out telling stories.
Meanwhile, James decided to make friends with Stockton. He even shared his rock with him, patted him on the knee, tried to hug, and looked so happy when Stockton decided that the rock was a great gift.
While dinner cooked, James tried to blow out the fire.
Elora brought her rock finding tools on the campout. She found some nice pieces of sandstone that she decided to chip at with her tools to see what the inside looked like.
After dinner we made smores, which was obviously the highlight of the camping trip for all the children.
Elora was especially excited. Marion had to get over the fact that she was sticky before she could really enjoy hers.
The kids broke out the glow sticks. Marion got a pretty glow stick necklace that she loved.
Our friend Greg was in the area for a family reunion. He came by our campsite so that he and Chris could scope out spots for family photos the next day, and of course to have some smores. Later Stef’s husband Dawson came by too, so we had quite the party at our campsite! Lots of cars, lots of kids – we just needed a stereo so we could REALLY bug the neighboring campsites!
We stayed up way too late, ate too many marshmallows, watched lots of kids with glow sticks running around in the dark, and had a really great time. It was beautiful falling asleep in the tent with the mesh ceiling so I could see all the stars. Now if I had only remembered pillows, it would have been the perfect camping trip!
