We had General Conference in April, a chance to listen to the prophet and church leaders give inspired council. I love conference time, and the kids are beginning to love it too. It is still challenging for them to sit through a lot of speakers, so I prepared a lot of activities for them. We each made conference books that they wrote and drew pictures in during conference. Oliver drew a picture of the organ and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He told me that was his favorite part of conference. (Always!)
I got these fun shape pictures that the kids could use our pattern blocks on. This one is of a temple and I had another one of a mountain. Marion really liked using the pattern blocks as well.
I made a breakfast cake and named it “Conference Cake”. All the kids loved it, and Marion told me she wants Conference Cake for her next birthday. It is nice to have some special treats for the kids when they are trying so hard to sit nicely.
This was Marion’s favorite game. I had pictures of the prophet and the apostles and I had magnets with colorful buttons on them. She got to decorate their pictures with the buttons and I think she must have spent two hours on just this game. I guess I will have to make another set, because the other kids really liked it also but Marion didn’t really want to share! Luckily we also had BINGO with treats, so the other kids enjoyed playing BINGO.
I had pictures on the walls of my room and during each talk the kids would decide what the speaker was talking about and then tape their picture onto one of the topic pictures hanging on the wall. It was actually really helpful for the kids. They would listen to the beginning of every talk very attentively and we had to take turns taping pictures because they all wanted to do it!
This conference went really well (considering how young all the kids are!) and I am grateful I could hear the inspired messages. I have a desire to be a better mother and to focus my life more on service, gratitude, and my family. I hope I can take the lessons learned and apply them to my life, as I try to be a better disciple of the Savior.
