Chris went out of town and my sister Lisa was supposed to come visit in March, but had to cancel at the last minute. I had already told the kids that we were going to St. George to go to the museum, so we decided to take them down to St. George even though Auntie Lisa wasn’t going to be able to join us. Oliver said he really wanted to go to the temple, so we went there first. This little guy loves going to the temple.
James was asleep so Grandma stayed in the car with James and Elora (who was reading a book, of course) while Marion, Oliver, and I walked around the grounds.
After we took a couple pictures the kids headed straight for the stairs.
“Mom! Come up the stairs! Come see us!” It was a really beautiful day, and there is no where I would rather be on a beautiful day than the St. George temple. It is so peaceful there.
Oliver was showing me the stairs again. And then the pretty flowers.
Oliver really wanted to go inside the visitor’s center to see the statue of Jesus, so we went in and walked around a little. There is also a room that has different exhibits of art. This time there were paintings by Julie Rogers – beautiful! I love her work. Oliver and Marion did not want to leave! I had to drag them out. Maybe next time we will have to plan on spending more time here.
We went to the Children’s Discovery Museum. Such a fun place to play! There is a little tree house inside that Oliver really enjoyed.
I think it must have been spring break, because it was quite crowded! We still had a great time though. Marion was excited to find a snake to play with.
James loved the farm room. He kept lining up the vegetables in a very particular way. I sat back and watched the kids play in this room for a really long time and I thought it was strange that with so many kids there that it wasn’t more of a mess. As I watched though, I noticed that some kids take everything away from where they are “supposed” to be, and other kids put them back. Elora and Oliver and another child kept taking all the vegetables from the garden and putting them in the farm truck, and James kept bringing them back to the garden. There were also some parents who left everything where their kids left it and other parents who put things away. It was really funny to watch the cycle of toys being taken out to play and being put away as we played in this room for 45 minutes. It never ended in complete chaos because there were always some kids and grown-ups who wanted things put back in order.
Oliver was a cute postmaster. He also drove the little mail truck in the hall for quite awhile.
Elora enjoyed the costumes and sitting at the president’s desk. She was kicking back with her feet on the desk. I think she felt pretty cool sitting there.
James loved the grocery store too. He drove his little cart around for a long time and he also enjoyed putting the groceries away.
Oliver found a fireman uniform and wore it for a good hour before I could convince him to put it back!
James discovered this firehouse dog in the hall and sat looking at it, chatting with it, putting its hat on and off. It was so cute.
We found a theater room that we had never been in before. The kids could turn on karaoke music, wear costumes, use microphones, and sing on stage, or go do the lighting in the lighting booth. It was pretty fun to watch. The kids were pretty shy about singing, but Oliver, Marion, and James all really liked holding the microphone.
There was also a room with a mechanic shop and an airport. Oliver had to go try them all out before we were allowed to leave the museum. We had such a great time. This is a really fun museum for the kids.
Oliver had to come with me into the women’s bathroom, and he really doesn’t like to, but I don’t feel comfortable sending him in the men’s room by himself. We walked in and he said, “What if there are people in there, what will they say?” It is funny now that he is old enough to feel embarrassed about it. Luckily there was no one in there, so he didn’t have to worry about what they would say. As he finished washing his hands he noticed that he could see me when looking in the mirror and he thought that was very fun. What a cute boy! I love this little guy, he is a ball of energy and fun.
