Grandpa’s 70th Birthday

Grandpa turned 70 years old the day Elora was baptized. We all headed over to Grandpa and Grandma’s house for dinner and some yummy red velvet cake. In my family we always use the appropriate number of candles, so Chris and I made a big number 70 out of 70 candles.
It got a little hot while we were lighting the candles… and sometimes it’s okay to scrape off some frosting to get rid of the layer of melted wax! You can see the kids prepping to help blow out candles…
The amazing part is that Grandpa ALWAYS blows them all out. That might be why this tradition continues. The kids helped a little though, and then we were all encased in so much smoke that for all we know he took more than one breath to blow them out.
James was thoroughly amused by all the singing, candles, and smoke. He loves birthdays.
Once the cake and ice cream was finished James ran to get some shoes so someone could take him outside. I think he would sleep outside if I would let him.
The kids made Grandpa some nice cards. Marion made a birthday octopus (green, Grandpa’s favorite color), Oliver made a picture of Grandpa and Oliver sharing cookies with balloons and a cake, and Elora made a wonderful card with a Hallmark card message, “70 – The perfect age… for hugs!”
We love you Grandpa!
