Ski season started in Brian Head on November 15th so we headed up to our condo together. Chris was about to leave for Vienna and was closer to the Salt Lake airport and we got to spend some time with him before he left on his business trip. The kids love to go to the “an apartment” so they were pretty excited to go up and ski. We got new skis for Oliver and bought Marion a helmet and goggles. It was interesting trying to juggle so many kids… Chris took up the girls first and said Marion did great and actually skied a little on her own! Wow!
At first Oliver just wanted to sled. We figured James would want to sled too, but NO, he wanted to do this:
No, he didn’t fall, he plopped himself face down in the snow so he could lick up the snow. Every time I picked him up, he just did it again! He cried whenever I tried to put him in the sled! Goober.
This is our, “Are we completely crazy for trying to manage this many kids on the ski slope?!?!?” picture. I actually went to the store with all the kids the next day and the cashier said, “Wow, are you all one family????”
It was a pretty warm day so there was only snow on one slope and one lift running, but it was the kids’ favorite lift and a good beginning run for little Marion Bear.
Oliver decided he wanted a chance to ski too, so I helped him get ready to ski. He has new skis this year and did awesome. This kid loves snow. Oliver and I had a snowball fight while Chris skied with the girls one more time, which was pretty awesome because the snowballs were actually ice balls. Ow.
I skied down once with just Elora. On the chairlift she said, “I think I am going to have to go in front Mom, because I am so fast that I will be faster than you.” I am constantly amazed at this little girl who is usually a little timid – until she gets her skis on and then she is completely confident and can ski down pretty much anything at the resort. She was skiing really well, and making neat little turns around anyone who was sitting in the middle of the slope. Wow Elora, we are so proud of you! It was an awesome ski day, but short because James got cold after sticking his face in the snow too many times. We need a nanny to watch that kid so we can manage the rest of our crew while we ski! It should be really fun in two years when he is big enough to ski, then we can make a little ski school line while skiing down the mountains.
On Saturday we were going to get some wood. Chris called up the town of Brian Head and asked if they knew a good spot to cut wood and they said we could cut up any downed trees we found along the road, so we checked out behind our condo and found TONS of downed trees. We figured we wouldn’t have to drive anywhere which made the hauling wood from behind the condo to the parking lot worth it.
The kids had a great time playing the forest behind our place.
Chris likes pictures with lots of sawdust flying, so these pics are for him.
Once we started hauling all the wood to our trailer we realized just how heavy these trees were and just how far away the parking lot was… I was so tired after this! Chris had to haul more than me though because I couldn’t lift some of the wood. But we got our trailer filled up, cleared out a little wood from the little forest, and spent some time working together which is always nice. Chris left for Vienna the next morning and I got the exciting opportunity to haul a trailer for the first time. Luckily it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. It was really nice to spend some time together before Chris had to leave on a business trip. Now we are excited because he will be home just in time for Thanksgiving! Definitely something to be thankful for!
