Luau

We went to a luau at the Hale Koa hotel in Honolulu. Marion liked the poi balls we got to try out.

Oliver also thought the poi balls were really cool. Anytime you can swing things around it is pretty cool.

The girls wanted to make bracelets, so I helped them string their flowers.

James just liked crawling around on the grass with his awesome Hawaiian shirt.

Marion proudly showed off her bracelet to Daddy when she finished.

We sat on the grass and watched some music, dancing, and coconut tree climbing while we waited for dinner.

Oliver was super excited to wear his new Hawaiian shirt to the luau and he really loved watching someone climb a coconut tree. He thought that was awesome.

Chris told the kids that poi is purple pudding and managed to get all of them to try it. Here are their reactions.

Needless to say, none of them ate more than a little taste of the poi.

Marion loved the luau dinner. Pork and fried rice were some of the items on the menu. This girl loves meat and she loves rice.

Oliver loved dessert. Coconut cake and coconut gelatin. Yum.

James is just a happy boy.

Chris was very proud that he had brought floss with him in his wallet so he could get the meat out of his teeth.

The show was nice because they showed traditional dances from Hawaii, Tonga, Tahiti, and Maori. Chris was chosen to be part of the hula contest and got to dance with a lovely hula dancer on stage. Later Oliver said he wished he could have gone up on stage to dance.

The kids loved the fire dance the best. Elora said the fire dancer looked really young, and it turned out he was only fifteen. He was really talented.
