It is November and we finally had our first snow! At first I was a little sad because I have really enjoyed our long warm fall. But then the sun came out and the kids were SO excited to go outside and play in the snow.
Elora tried to build a snowman, but the snow didn’t stick together really well. I couldn’t find my gloves to help her, but she was excited just to build a tiny little snowman. If you look next to Elora’s foot you can see her small, funny shaped snowman. She was excited to find a stick for a nose and asked me if it was okay that she couldn’t find matching rocks for his eyes. I am glad she was excited about her creation, even if it didn’t turn out quite the way she wanted it to.
We had some icicles on the roof which I broke off for the kids. Elora loves ice. Oliver kept asking me for a “colored icicle”. I could not figure out what he meant… but then he told me we keep them in the freezer. Oh! Otter Pops! I guess they do look like icicles.
I asked the kids if they wanted me to get out the sled. I wasn’t sure we could find a spot in the yard steep enough for them to sled, but they used to enjoy just pulling the sled around the yard last year. They went to our small hill near the garden, and Elora climbed on… and slid away before Oliver could get on with her! They laughed and laughed. So cute.
It took a couple tries, but we finally ended up with both kids on the sled and going down the hill. I am so surprised that at the speed the sled went down our tiny hill. The best part? The kids didn’t mind hauling the sled up the hill by themselves.
Yoda decided he wanted in on the fun. He spent some time chasing the sled down the hill and trying to hop on when the kids would come back up to the top.
The sled tipped over a few times. I kept waiting for tears, but the kids just laughed every time.
There are so many cute pictures, I just couldn’t stop photographing them! This was such a fun afternoon.
Here is their teamwork carrying the sled up the hill!
This one is my favorite.
Marion woke up from her nap and was SO excited to go play in the snow! She kept saying, “Marion go outside in snow!” I could not find any snow gear that was her size. Luckily she is pretty small, so she still sort of fit in last years coat and I found a baby snow bib that she could get on. She found one of the kids’ toy chairs outside and just sat on it. She watched her siblings sled, looked around at the snow, and kept saying, “Snow!”
I convinced her to sled with Oliver. She went down once and looked a little concerned. I asked if she wanted to go again and she said she didn’t want to! I can’t believe it. Elora was pretty bummed that Marion wouldn’t sled with her.
Marion found a pumpkin that had been left in the garden and thought that was so funny for some reason. “Pumpkin! In snow! Little pumpkin!” She held it for awhile and then buried it in the snow.
The kids had been sledding in their jeans and eventually got wet and cold. We went inside and changed into dry socks, ski bibs, hats, and Oliver found his ski coat, and then everyone decided to come back outside to sled some more! Once again, I kept waiting for that moment when everyone gets cold and sad, but it just never came.
Elora decided to roll down the hill. Goober!
Marion spent the whole time just walking around in the snow saying, “Marion walk in snow!”It cracked me up that she was just happy to be outside enjoying her first snow day of the season. When the sun started to go down, the kids finally came in and had to hop in the bath tub to warm up. Oliver was sad that the water made his feet sting, but in a couple minutes when his feet warmed up he said, “I like the stinging feet! Now I am warm!”
Once they were warm and clean I fed them spaghetti for dinner. Probably a mistake, because then no one was clean anymore… Elora put on her Indian headdress she made at school and I tried to take pictures of the kids, but this is the best I got.
And Marion just laughed and laughed at her goober siblings. This was such an awesome first snow day of the season! I hope we have many more days like this.
