We went on a hike in Zion a few weeks ago. We headed down to a little known slot canyon that Chris discovered way back when we were doing out 365 Days in Zion project. It became a favorite for us, since there were often frogs there, and it always stays nice a cool. We haven’t been there in years, and it was fun to take the kids there.
Marion enjoyed looking around and picking up rocks.
Oliver had a great stick to use as a sword…
Nice view near the end of where you can walk through the canyon.
We sat down for a snack and Marion took the opportunity to play in (and throw) the sand.
I love having kids who like hiking and exploring. Zion is one of the reasons I love living in Glendale so much, and it is so awesome to bring the kids here. They love it, and we really need to take them more often.
Once we finished our snack, we headed back the other way in the wash and went to a place Chris has dubbed the “Faux Subway”. It is a neat spot where water has hollowed out a nice rocky ledge that is a great spot to sit, and there are always plants growing from the “ceiling” of rocks.
More snacks – Elora is such a little ham. She is always asking me to take her picture.
I think Marion was thirsty…
There are a lot of neat holes in the rocks to explore and sit in. The kids said these were thrones and they were the king and queen of the rocks. And don’t they just look the part?
Marion decided to join in the fun.
Elora is our biggest explorer. Crazy to think she has been exploring in Zion since I was pregnant with her during our 365 Days in Zion project… and then all through her first couple years of life until we moved to Vienna. Maybe she still sort of remembers, because she is definitely into hiking and the outdoors.
Elora found a big rock to jump onto…
And everyone else followed her over!
Marion is turning into quite the hiker. She doesn’t like to have you help her, so it is at times a little scary to watch her try to scamper over rocks like her big brother and sister. But she is definitely determined! This was a really great day with the family.
