A few months ago our friend Peter from Vienna came to visit. We wanted to hike out to “The Wave”, but they only give out a few permits, and alas, I did not get one. So I asked the ranger where to go and he recommended Wire Pass. We had never done this hike before, but it is around 3 miles or so and we thought Elora would enjoy it, so we brought her along.
She loved being in the slot canyon. She would cuddle up in every nook and corner, and pick up rocks to scratch pictures on the walls.
There were a few spots where we had to jump down to continue the hike, but nothing to tough. Luckily it was a beautiful day even though it was winter time.
Peter spent a lot of time snapping pictures, so we got to look around a lot. It’s been awhile since we hiked any slot canyons. While we were out there we ran into a lady who was doing a promotional video for the park service, so she did a little video of us hiking around, and told us that we had picked the best hike in the area. So thank you to the ranger who recommended it!
Elora likes to draw on rocks using other rocks. I have never taken her on a hike where she doesn’t find a good rock to make drawings with. It actually all started when I took her to see some petroglyphs. I think she wants to make some petroglyphs of her own.
At the end of the second slot canyon, there are some petroglyphs. They are actually really low down on the wall. We walked right past them and I only noticed them after Elora started exploring and drawing on the walls…
On the way back to the car Elora decided to make a sand angel. Because who doesn’t want to get red sand all over themselves just before getting in the car? We had a great hike and are so glad Peter could come stay with us for a short visit. Maybe next year we’ll be able to get permits to hike the wave if Peter comes out this way!
