On New Year’s Eve, Chris told the kids they could stay up as late as they wanted. We also let them watch a movie, and randomly enough, they chose to watch the Les Miserables 25th anniversary concert. Oliver LOVES it and has been telling Elora all about it, so she wanted to see it too.
Here are some fun things they said while watching:
Elora, during the song where Jean Valjean is singing, “Who Am I?”
“Did he forget his name?”
Oliver during the song “Drink with Me”
“Are they thirsty?”
Elora during the fight at the barricade,
“Do they have to share guns because they don’t have enough weapons? Who is winning, the good guys or the bad guys?”
Oliver, about Javert, the policeman who has been tracking Jean Valjean for years,
“Is he the police? He is mean. He must be a bad police. Are some police bad?”
Oh dear, this play is invoking some important questions… If you want to figure out how to give a complicated answer in only simple words, try watching this play with a 5 and 3 year old…
After the movie it was about 9:30 and Elora announced she was very tired and wanted to go to bed. So we gave the kids a real glass cup with a little sparkling apple juice and toasted the New Year! They were both excited to toast, but Elora spit her drink back in her cup… she doesn’t like anything carbonated. Oliver liked it so much he wanted to keep toasting and saying “Happy New Year!” for the next few days!
