Grandma and Grandpa took us to the San Diego Space Museum. I haven’t been there since I was a kid, but I remember it being really fun and it is pretty close to their house.
We had lunch outside when we first got there. Oliver took off his shoes first thing and ran off to chase the birds. Who needs museums when there are seagulls and pidgeons?
Elora thought running looked like fun, so she took off too!
Inside the museum are lots of exhibits that the kids can use to experiment and learn about science. The smoke ring exhibit was a big hit.
This water tornado had buttons and levers to use to change the size and shape of the tornado. Anything with buttons is a favorite with Oliver.
These are fun – there are two of these big circles on opposite sides of the room and you can talk to people who are standing at the other circle. Oliver kept telling grandpa to go over to the other circle so he could talk! He kept looking around to see if Grandpa was standing behind him. So funny.
There were different colored lights on the ceiling that made your shadow change into three different colors. Oliver and Elora both enjoyed seeing the different colors on the wall.
There was a spot in the museum called Kid City. This was a big hit with the kids. There was a grocery store, a factory, a fire truck, a car with a nice big stop light and all kinds of fun things to do.
Marion hanging out with Grandpa at the computer game station. I don’t know why they always have computer games in kid museums. Look kids, there are great toys everywhere that you never get to play with!!! But then they all gravitate toward the computer games…
There was a huge room filled with buckets and buckets of these wood blocks you could build with. Elora saw a boy building a six foot tall church with a cross on top, and she wanted to do that too. Oliver helped her a little. He mostly was excited to take off his shoes and smash the church once Elora said it was okay.
The kids like these gravity wells with the marbles. I like them too, I could have played here all day!
And our favorite? This table has a turntable in the middle where you can try to have disks of different shapes and sizes spin on it. Oliver thought this was pretty neat. There were so many other great exhibits too, bridges to build, simulated volcanos and earthquakes, satellite computers and all kinds of stuff. It was a great museum, and we were all sad when it was time to leave!
