Just before we left Arizona, Nana wanted to give Elora a little party for her birthday, even though she isn’t technically five yet…So we made some cupcakes (which Oliver enjoyed eating the batter more than helping make the batter…)Elora also enjoyed lots of batter…Elora was SO excited to decorated the cupcakes all by herself.Oliver decorated like… two cupcakes and then he started just eating the frosting and sprinkles.Elora loved the selection of fancy sprinkles. She made special ones for everyone with their favorite kinds of sprinkles. Mine just had crunchy sugar, Chris’ had chocolate sprinkles, and Elora? Every single kind of sprinkles of course! They were very fancy.Oliver eating more frosting. He would take two bites of cake and then ask for another cupcake (meaning, he wanted more frosting. We should have just given him a bowl of frosting and saved the cupcakes for the rest of us).Gorgeous cupcakes Elora!Singing happy birthday. Elora in her beautiful princess crown was very happy about her candles. But when you ask her to make a wish she emphatically says, “NO! Wishes like that don’t really come true. That’s just pretend. But maybe I will make a wish on a meteorite anyway”. Because of course everyone knows that shooting stars are actually meteors…I love how in every picture of people blowing out candles, the bystanders usually look like they are trying to help.Presents — “A box! I love boxes!” Yes, she actually says that. Every time.“Clothes! They are beautiful, I love them!!!!” She says that too. Funny kid. It is so fun to give Elora parties, she is so genuinely happy about everything.
The best part is that because we had a party, even though we explained it wasn’t actually her birthday, now Elora is confused as to when she will have a birthday. At first she would say, “I don’t know, maybe my birthday is in like a day or maybe tomorrow or in a week or something.” Now she just tells everyone she is five and I don’t bother to correct her.
