My brother David has a boat, so he took us all out to Canyon Lake here in Arizona. When we were kids, we had a boat and we would go waterskiing all summer long. Funny fact of the day – Arizona is land locked but has the highest number of boats per capita in the country.
This is just a funny view of my brother David — I am sure he appreciates it.
Here we are waiting for the boat to get pulled into the water. The kids were really excited and looking forward to their day on the lake.
My Aunt Lothair was visiting and came along for the ride too.
That huge stream of water shooting out of the back of the boat is called a rooster tail. It’s just for showing off to the other tail-less boaters. As you can see from everyone’s hair, we were going pretty fast…The kids all had to wear life vests in case the boat capsized – which seemed likely since we were going so fast. Elora was super excited about the rainbow in the background.
David’s stepdaughter Casey came with us. The weather was super nice and it felt awesome to have the cool breeze blowing in our faces as we whipped around the lake.
Elora loved the boat. And she loved her Barbie life vest. The scenery was very beautiful. The whole area is just canyons and mountains that were turned into lakes when dams were built around Arizona in the 30s and 60s.
Oliver really likes his sunglasses but doesn’t usually wear them. With the bright sun and wind in his face he was happy to wear them — for the first half of the trip anyway.
We stopped to have a picnic. We found some lizards and I devised a scheme to capture one. First I lulled him into a false sense of security by flattering his heart and mind, by telling him he has not a care in the world, he is just a lizard free in the desert! Then when he had relaxed, I quickly snatched him in my claws and presented him to Elora. Elora was excited to hold him. No tails were harmed in the photographing of this lizard.
This life vest did not look very comfortable, but we still got some smiles out of happy Marion and then she actually fell asleep while the boat was zooming around the lake.
Look at that family resemblance…
Oliver and Nana had awesome hair — it reminds me of Thing 1 and Thing 2.
David let Oliver drive the boat and he could not get enough of it. He kept coming back over to David’s seat to drive some more.
Elora got a little jealous and wanted a turn too. She loved the whole boat experience — all smiles the whole day. Needless to say, Uncle David quickly became a favorite amongst the children.
Here are the happy kidlets as we headed back to the dock.
And obviously it was a fun day because Elora zonked out in the car after about two minutes. She has been asking to go back to the lake every day since then…
