Both the castle and the palace we visited were on the hills above Sintra a small picturesque touristy town. Portuguese architecture uses a lot of painted tiles. It was interesting to see all the buildings and shops with the painted tiles on the walls. Very pretty. We bought a 6 piece tile set with a painting of the castle ruins for future use back home.
On the way home we grabbed a bunch of pastries from the shop. Literally. Karen grabbed the bag right away. Elora was very excited to eat them on the train ride.
